Detailed Itinerary: Horseback Riding Tour through the Archaeological Complexes of Cusco

  • Hotel Pickup and Transfer to the Ranch: The tour begins in the morning at 08:00 a.m. (or in the afternoon at 01:00 p.m.) with direct pickup from your hotel. We will board our private transportation and head to the base ranch, located very close to the impressive Sacsayhuamán archaeological park, which offers a natural viewpoint over the city of Cusco.
  • Technical Briefing and Practice Session: Once at the ranch, we will meet the assigned horses. Our professional guide, together with an experienced horse handler, will provide a safety briefing and an interactive practice session. You will receive all the necessary instructions to ride safely, comfortably, and responsibly.
  • Horseback Ride to Sacsayhuamán and Qenqo: We will begin riding northward. We will pass by the outer areas of the impressive Sacsayhuamán fortress, admiring its colossal megalithic walls. We will then continue to Qenqo (Quechua word meaning “labyrinth”), a sacred ceremonial center where we will observe mysterious structures and zigzag-shaped rock-carved galleries.
  • Visit to the Mystical Temple of the Moon and Puca Pucara: We will continue the journey on horseback toward the Temple of the Moon, a sacred archaeological site surrounded by nature. Afterwards, we will ride through Andean trails enjoying beautiful highland landscapes until we reach Puca Pucara, an impressive Inca military fortress built with red stone blocks that formed part of the imperial defense system.
  • Arrival at Tambomachay and Return to Cusco: We will finish the horseback ride at Tambomachay, an Inca ceremonial site known for its impressive water fountains, aqueducts, and channels dedicated to the worship of water. At this final point, our private transport will be waiting to take you safely back to your hotel in Cusco.

No prior riding experience is needed. This tour is classified as easy difficulty. Upon arrival at the base ranch, a guided practice session is conducted where the horse handlers and guide will teach you the basic instructions to ride safely and comfortably, as the horses are very calm and well-trained.

The tour operates in two shifts: 08:00 a.m. and 01:00 p.m. The morning shift usually offers cooler weather and clear skies, ideal for photography. The afternoon shift allows you to enjoy the warm golden colors of the Andean sunset over the red stone walls of Puca Pucara. Both schedules include the same visits and private services.

To ensure the welfare of our Peruvian criollo horses, a standard maximum weight limit of approximately 95 kg (210 lbs) is applied. The tour is suitable for children over 9–10 years old who can independently handle the reins, and it is not recommended for pregnant women or people with severe spinal injuries.
