Our 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the perfect option for travelers who want to experience the magic of the legendary Inca Trail without completing the classic four-day trek. This carefully designed adventure combines breathtaking mountain scenery, fascinating archaeological sites, and the unforgettable excitement of reaching Machu Picchu through the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku), just as the ancient Incas once did.
Along the route, you will explore the spectacular archaeological complex of Wiñay Huayna, considered one of the most beautiful and best-preserved sites on the Inca Trail. Surrounded by lush cloud forests, impressive agricultural terraces, and remarkable stone architecture, this hidden gem offers an incredible glimpse into the engineering and culture of the Inca civilization. Afterward, you will continue your hike to the Sun Gate, where you will enjoy your first panoramic view of the magnificent Lost City of the Incas before descending to Aguas Calientes. On the second day, you will return early to Machu Picchu for a guided tour, discovering its fascinating history, temples, plazas, and breathtaking landscapes with an expert guide.
A new adventure awaits us, and we’ll begin by picking you up at your hotel at 4:00 a.m. to start our journey to the train station in Ollantaytambo. Once in Ollantaytambo at the scheduled time, we’ll board the train that travels through the Sacred Valley of the Incas until we reach km 104, where we’ll immediately begin our hike.
We’ll start very early and head to the bus station—a 10-minute walk—to begin the 400-meter climb, which takes about 30 minutes. Finally, we’ll arrive at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu to enjoy the sunrise.
Since permits are issued by the Ministry of Culture and are very limited (250 slots per day), we recommend making your reservation at least 2 to 3 months in advance. For dates during the high season (May through August), it’s best to book 4 to 5 months in advance.
It is moderately difficult. The hike from km 104 to Inti Punku takes approximately 6 to 7 hours (about 10 km). It is highly recommended that you go on a few preparatory hikes at home and spend at least 1 or 2 days in Cusco before the tour to properly acclimate to the altitude.
Yes, absolutely. All hotels and hostels in Cusco offer free luggage storage for their guests. You’ll travel along the Inca Trail with only your daypack.
Yes, you can do this on Day 2, after your guided tour of the Inca citadel. However, this admission is NOT included. You must request it at the time of booking for an additional cost of $75 USD, and it is always subject to availability.
