The Inca Trail is universally recognized as one of the world's most legendary treks. This iconic 4-day journey allows you to hike along original, centuries-old Inca cobblestone paths, winding through the breathtaking landscapes of the Machu Picchu National Park and discovering hidden archaeological ruins along the way.
This adventure is carefully designed to offer spectacular panoramic views, leading you step-by-step toward the majestic citadel. Accompanied by our expert bilingual guides and a dedicated team of local porters who will support you throughout the expedition, this trek guarantees an unforgettable and deeply rewarding lifetime experience.
We begin our 4-day adventure to Machu Picchu early in the morning at 5:30 a.m., when our private transport picks you up directly from your hotel in Cusco. We will take a scenic bus ride toward the starting point of our trek, making strategic stops at beautiful viewpoints and points of interest that will allow us to enjoy the spectacular Andean landscape.
Upon arrival at Kilometer 82, we will pass through the official Inca Trail checkpoint. After a delicious, freshly prepared lunch in Miskay, we will officially begin our hike. Along the way, we will explore the impressive archaeological site of Patallacta before continuing our trek to our first campsite in Wayllabamba, where a hot dinner awaits us.
In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we will begin our challenging ascent toward the highest point of the trek. We will cross the famous Warmiwañuska Pass, also known as the "Dead Woman's Pass," reaching an altitude of 4,215 meters. Here, we will pause to rest, take photos, and admire the breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains.
After celebrating our achievement at the pass, we will begin our descent to the Pacaymayo Valley. Upon arrival at the campsite, we will enjoy a well-deserved, warm lunch before setting up our tents. You will have the afternoon free to rest and restore your energy for the next day.
The third day is widely considered the most beautiful and spectacular of the entire trek. We will start by hiking up to the Runcurakay Pass, ascending to 3,970 meters above sea level. After exploring the semi-circular ruins of Runcurakay, we will descend to enjoy lunch near the archaeological site of Sayacmarca.
Our journey continues through original Inca stone paths and rock tunnels, leading us to the enigmatic city among the clouds: Puyupatamarca. From this stunning vantage point, we will begin a long descent down stone steps to Wiñayhuayna, where we will spend our last night under a starry Andean sky at our campsite.
At dawn, we will wake up early to head towards the final stretch of the Inca Trail. We will hike to Intipunku, the famous Sun Gate, where we will arrive just in time to enjoy the first rays of the sunrise casting over the magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu below.
After soaking in the views, we will enter the archaeological site for a comprehensive guided tour of Machu Picchu's most important sectors, temples, and palaces. Once the tour concludes, we will take the shuttle bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes. Finally, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo station, where our private transportation will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco, concluding this unforgettable lifetime experience.
Due to strict government regulations and high demand, permits are limited. We highly recommend booking 4 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during the high season (May to August).
Altitude sickness (soroche) can affect anyone, regardless of physical condition. To prevent it, we recommend staying in Cusco for at least 2 or 3 days before the trek, staying well hydrated, and drinking coca tea.
No, it is legally mandatory to hike the Inca Trail with a licensed professional guide and through an authorized travel agency.
If your package includes a porter service, the weight limit for your personal duffel bag is usually between 5 kg and 7 kg per person. This helps protect the health and well-being of our team.
Yes, there are basic public toilets at the campsites, and some campsites have cold showers. However, we also provide private chemical toilets for our groups at the camps.
